DAF Museum reopens renewed Traffic Safety Zone
learning about traffic, more fun and smarter than ever
Anyone familiar with the DAF Museum knows it is more than just looking at beautiful vehicles. This will soon become even more apparent with the reopening of the renewed Traffic Safety Zone. This popular area in the museum has undergone a significant upgrade and is fully prepared for today’s traffic-related challenges.
Learning safely in a realistic environment
In the Traffic Safety Zone, children and young people learn in a playful way how traffic works. Not only the rules, but especially how to recognize risks and make smart decisions. With the new setup, the zone is more interactive than ever. Visitors actively engage with familiar traffic situations, discover how right of way works, and learn why the blind spot of a truck can be so dangerous.
Learning by doing is central. By observing, trying, and participating, the lessons stick better—and it is simply more fun.
Strong together in traffic education
Since its launch, the DAF Museum has worked together with Excellent Verkeersonderwijs from Best for its traffic education programmes. This specialist in traffic education currently provides lessons for school groups in the Traffic Safety Zone. With their expertise and experience, they ensure that the lessons align well with real-life practice as well as with the everyday experiences of children.
This collaboration underlines the shared ambition to convey traffic safety in an accessible and contemporary way, with attention to current traffic situations and behaviour.
An idea with a long Eindhoven history
The DAF Museum’s commitment to traffic safety is no coincidence. As early as the 1970s, DAF founder Hub van Doorne, together with his brother Wim, put Eindhoven on the map with the famous “Traffic Garden” on Boutenslaan. Thousands of children learned how to safely participate in traffic there, in the middle of a recreated “real world”.
This philosophy has continued ever since within the museum.
After the closure of the Traffic Garden, the DAF Safe Traffic Fund foundation and the museum took the initiative to develop an educational programme specifically aimed at young people. A dedicated Traffic Safety Zone was created in the museum, where both theory and practice are taught. Recently, this zone has been completely modernised.
For schools, families and curious visitors
The Traffic Safety Zone is a permanent and popular destination for school classes but also offers families a fun and educational addition to a museum visit. The upgrade ensures that the Dutch spoken lessons better reflect today’s traffic and the world of young visitors.
With new interactive elements and up-to-date themes, traffic education remains fresh, understandable and relevant.
Reopening soon
The reopening of the renewed Traffic Safety Zone marks a new chapter in a long tradition of traffic education within the DAF Museum—a tradition in which technology, safety and social responsibility come together, alongside partners who share the same mission. The improvements have been made possible in part through contributions from DAF Trucks, Veilig Verkeer Nederland and the ANWB.
The reopening will take place on 19 June. One thing is certain: the Traffic Safety Zone is once again fully ready to help new generations on their way safely.
