DAF and the Landing Gear of an F-16
Visitors to the DAF Museum often react with surprise upon seeing "that strange thing" – a landing gear from an aircraft. What is that doing in a car museum?

It turns out to be a product of DAF SP (Special Products), a division that also focused on aerospace technology. Within SP, there was a specialized group for landing gear and related mechanical and hydraulic components.
The landing gear of the F-16, on display in the museum, was fully developed and produced by DAF SP. This specific piece is an exhibition model in its original configuration, mounted on a frame. A working version of this model was used by the Royal Netherlands Air Force at the Training School in Leeuwarden.
After the retirement of the F-16, the system became redundant there and was at risk of being scrapped. Thanks to close collaboration with the air force and permission from the American authorities, the landing gear is now on loan to the museum.
The plan is to display the system in working condition. However, this is a challenge: such an installation requires specialized knowledge and is not simply "plug-and-play."
DAF SP designed and produced not only for the F-16 but also parts for the Fokker 100, control systems for the Airbus A330/340, and for the Eurocopter NH90. Additionally, they provided maintenance, repairs, and on-site testing. Each part was thoroughly tested, certified, and approved – essential in the aviation industry.
