Milestones in DAF's history

DAF's history goes back to 1928, when the brothers Hub and Wim van Doorne laid the foundations for what has now become DAF Trucks. What started as a small engineering business and blacksmith workshop, developed into the fastest-growing truck manufacturing business in Europe.

    2016 - DAF EcoTwin concept participates in the European Truck Platooning Challenge

    Description

    A consortium of DAF Trucks, TNO, NXP and Ricardo is uniting under the name EcoTwin to participate in the European Truck Platooning Challenge that was organised by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment on Wednesday 6 April 2016. The objective of the Challenge is to obtain permission from governments to perform large-scale, pan-European testing of truck combinations that are linked wirelessly (‘platoons’). This enables truck combinations to drive very close to each other, which presents benefits in terms of fuel consumption and therefore CO2 emissions, safety and the flow of traffic.

    Celebrating 50 years of DAF production in Belgium (Westerlo). DAF Trucks in Oevel (Westerlo, Belgium) opened its cab factory in 1966. Nowadays DAF Trucks Vlaanderen N.V. is a leading and ultra-modern production facility that has seen continuous investments of which around € 600 million in the last 15 years. More than 2,200 employees currently produce 200 cabs and 450 axles a day for the popular DAF CF and XF trucks.
